Roughly 0.05 gallons per horsepower per hour at full load. A 100 hp tractor working hard burns about 4–5 gallons an hour; lighter fieldwork uses less. Idling and light loads can cut consumption by half or more.
How long will a 500-gallon diesel tank last?
It depends entirely on your draw. A 500-gallon bulk tank running a single 4 gal/hr tractor 6 hours a day lasts about 20 days; spread across a fleet it empties faster. Enter your equipment and hours above for a specific figure and refill date.
How much DEF does a diesel engine use?
Diesel Exhaust Fluid is consumed at roughly 2–3% of diesel volume on modern engines. If you burn 100 gallons of diesel, expect to use about 2–3 gallons of DEF. The calculator estimates this when you enable DEF tracking.
How do I track diesel usage across multiple pieces of equipment?
Log hours and load per machine and sum the gallons. For an ongoing operation, tracking each tank’s level over time is far more reliable than estimates — it captures idling, weather, and operator differences a formula can’t.
Why does my diesel run out faster in winter?
Cold-weather idling, block heaters, and longer warm-ups all raise consumption, and diesel can gel in extreme cold. Heated or treated fuel and reduced idling help, but plan for higher winter burn on equipment and bulk tanks.
